I began this series in 1997, after a long period of unsuccessful experimentation in other art forms and other genres. One day, very frustrated, I essentially yelled at God, "OK then! What do YOU want me to do with my talent?" I sat down at my computer and stayed there for hours looking at a blank (Photoshop) canvas. I asked myself, "What wants to be in this picture?" Then, I created "Forty Days and Forty Nights." The rest of the work followed in the same vein. The titles would come to me in the middle of the night (this is still what happens).

I've been fascinated by fairytales since I was a child. As a college student, I studied Jungian psychology and immersed myself in the symbolism of childrens' literature and how it relates to the concept of the collective unconscious. When Woman Made Gallery of Chicago, Illinois offered me a solo show inspired by fairytales, I created the work you see here.
